Broadband...? Get a Superfast £3000 Grant

posted 1 Apr 2015, 03:13 by RiDO Rotherham
In September 2014, the four South Yorkshire authorities signed a contract with BT worth almost
£22million to extend the availability of high-speed, fibre broadband to 97.9% of homes and businesses.

The programme funding is made up of contributions from the four local authorities Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, the Governments Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) scheme and BT.

The project will build upon BT’s commercial roll-out which is already making fibre broadband available to many homes and businesses across South Yorkshire. Public funding will be used to invest in areas that have been deemed unviable by the commercial market ensuring 97.9% of South Yorkshire homes and businesses have access to fibre broadband speeds.

The first areas to benefit from the project are anticipated to have access to fibre broadband from late 2015 and the roll out will be fully completed by the end of 2017; being delivered over 8 phases during this time.
Currently there is much activity across the region to survey and plan the area and it is expected that the roll-out plans will be announced in the coming months.
